Waiting on God is the Hardest Part

Growing up my grandmother had a saying, “A watched pot never boils.” Often we just stand there staring and waiting when we wait on God, like watching the pot on the stove. When we are believing for something in our life to come to pass and waiting for our prayers to come to fruition, but nothing is happening, what do we do?
We trust in God, but yet why hasn’t he answered us? Proverbs 3:5-6 says “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” This is great advice!
While we are waiting for our answer, blessing, resolution, or whatever we are believing for, we tend to want to help God’s trust. Sounds funny, but what I mean is that we try to speed up God! We tend to focus on the lack of an answer instead of staying in the Word and building our faith and knowledge.
Sometimes God wants to do something in us before he does something for us! In Psalms 139:23 David asks God to “Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” Like David, while we wait on God we need to make sure we are lining up with the Word of God. In other words, we may need a little “spring cleaning” in our lives. We need to stop putting time restraints and limitations on God! Seek God with all your heart! Remember what my grandmother used to say: “A watched pot never boils!”
